Before I introduce our cultural programs, I want to tell you onething first about 2008. You're going to have a great time in Beijing.

China has its own sport legends. Back to Song Dynasty, about the11th century, people started to play a game called Cuju, which isregarded as the origin of ancient football. The game was very popularand women were also participating. Now, you will understand why ourwomen football team is so good today.

Along with the iconicimagery of the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall,the city offers an endless mixture of theatres, museums, discos, allkinds of restaurants and shopping malls that will amaze and delightyou.

People of Beijing believethat the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing will help to enhance the harmonybetween our culture and the diverse cultures of the world. Theirgratitude will pour out in open expressions of affection for you andthe great Movement that you guide.

Within our cultural programs, education and communication willreceive the highest priority. We seek to create an intellectual andsporting legacy by broadening the understanding of the Olympic Idealsthroughout the country.

Cultural events will unfold each year, from 2005 to 2008. We willstage multi-disciplined cultural programs, such as concerts,exhibitions, art competitions and camps which will involve young peoplefrom around the world. During the Olympics, they will be staged in theOlympic Village and the city for the benefit of the athletes.
文化活動也將因之而每一年開展，從2005年至2008年，我們將舉辦多元化的文化節目，如音樂會、展覽會、美術比賽和夏令營，將涉及來自世界各地的青少年。奧運會期間,他們將分別在奧運村和所有受惠的運動員活動。
Our Ceremonies will give China's greatest-and the world'sgreatest artists a stage for celebrating the common aspirations ofhumanity and the unique heritage of our culture and the OlympicMovement.

With a concept inspired by the famed Silk Road, our Torch Relaywill break new ground, traveling from Olympia through some of theoldest civilizations known to man-Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Byzantine,Mesopotamian, Persian, Arabian, Indian and Chinese. Carrying themessage "Share the Peace, Share the Olympics," the eternal flame willreach new heights as it crosses the Himalayas over the world's highestsummit - Mount Qomolangma, which is known to many of you as Mt.Everest. In China, the flame will pass through Tibet, cross the Yangtzeand
Yellow Rivers, travel the Great Wall and visit Hong Kong, Macau,Taiwan and the 56 ethnic communities who make up our society. On itsjourney, the flame will be seen by and inspire more human beings thanany previous relay.

I am afraid I can not present the whole picture of our culturalprograms within such a short period of time. Before I end, let me sharewith you one story. Seven hundred years ago, amazed by his incredibledescriptions of a far away land of great beauty, people asked MarcoPolo whether his stories about China were true.He answered: What I havetold you was not even half of what I saw. Actually, what we have shownyou here today is only a fraction of Beijing that awaits you.
在這麽短的時間裏，我恐怕不能介紹現在的中華全貌與我們的文化，在我結束前，讓我跟大家分享這洋一個故事，七百年前，馬可波邏來到中國，他驚訝的不得了，當他描述一個遙遠的國家非常美麗，人們問馬可波邏他在中國的故事是不是真的，他回答道：我告訴妳的連我看到的一半都沒有達到。其實,我們已經介紹的只是一小部分，北京正在等待著妳！
